  • The euro area (EA17) seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 12.0% in December 2013, stable since October.
  • It was 11.9% in December 2012.
  • The EU28 unemployment rate was 10.7% in December 2013, down from 10.8% in November.
  • It was 10.8% in December 2012.
  • 26.200 million men and women in the EU28, of whom 19.010 million were in the euro area, were unemployed in December 2013.
  • Compared with November 2013, the number of persons unemployed decreased by 162 000 in the EU28 and by 129 000 in the euro area.
  • Compared with December 2012, unemployment decreased by 173 000 in the EU28, but increased by 130 000 in the euro area.

  • The euro area (EA17) seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate  was 12.1% in October 2013, down from 12.2% in  September
  • The EU28 unemployment rate was 10.9%, stable compared with September
  • In both zones, rates have risen compared with October 2012, when they were 11.7% and 10.7% respectively
  • In October 2013, 26.654 million men and women were unemployed in the EU28, of whom 19.298 million were in the euro area
  • Compared with September 2013, the number of persons unemployed decreased by 75 000 in the EU28 and by 61 000 in the euro area. Compared with October 2012, unemployment rose by 512 000 in the EU28  and by 615 000 in the euro area.
  • In October 2013, 5.657 million young persons (under 25) were unemployed in the EU28, of whom 3.577 million were in the euro area.
  • Compared with October 2012 youth unemployment decreased by 29 000 in the EU28, but increased by 15 000 in the euro area.
  • In October 2013, the youth unemployment rate was 23.7% in the EU28 and 24.4% in the euro area, compared with 23.3% and 23.7% respectively in October 2012.

  • The euro area (EA17) seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 12.2% in September 2013, stable compared with August.
  • The EU28 unemployment rate was 11.0%, also stable compared with August.
  • In both zones, rates  have risen compared with September 2012, when they were 11.6% and 10.6% respectively.
  • In September 2013, 26.872 million men and women were unemployed in the EU28, of whom 19.447 million were in the euro area.
  • Compared with August 2013, the number of persons unemployed went up by 61 000 in the EU28 and by 60 000 in the euro area.
  • Compared with September 2012, unemployment rose by 978 000 in the EU28 and  by 996 000 in the euro area.

  • The euro area (EA17) seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate3 was 12.1% in May 2013, up from 12.0% in April
  • The EU27 unemployment rate was 10.9%, stable compared with the previous month
  • In both zones, rates have  risen markedly compared with May 2012, when they were 11.3% and 10.4% respectively
  • 26.405 million men and women in the EU27, of whom 19.222 million were in the euro area,  were unemployed in May 2013.
  • Compared with April 2013, the number of persons unemployed increased by 16 000 in the EU27 and by 67 000 in the euro area.
  • Compared with May 2012, unemployment rose by 1.324 million in the EU27 and by 1.344 million in the euro area.
  • In May 2013, 5.501 million young persons (under 25) were unemployed in the EU27, of whom 3.531 million were in the euro area.
  • Compared with May 2012, youth unemployment decreased by 77 000 in the EU27 and increased by 60 000 in the euro area.
  • In May 2013, the youth unemployment rate was 23.0% in the EU27 and 23.8% in the euro area, compared with 22.8% and 23.0% respectively in May 2012.

  • In both zones, rates have risen markedly compared with April 2012, when they were 11.2% and 10.3% respectively.
  • 26.588 million men and women in the EU27, of whom 19.375 million were in the euro area, were unemployed in April 2013.
  • Compared with March 2013, the number of persons unemployed increased by 104 000 in the EU27 and by 95 000 in the euro area.
  • Compared with April 2012, unemployment rose by 1.673 million in the EU27 and by 1.644 million in the euro area
