Banks fail to meet their ‘Merlin’ targets for lending to SMEs

  • Despite what looks like attempts to talk around the issue by focusing on gross lending, banks failed to meet the £76 billion target for lending to SMEs: figures from the Bank of England confirm that they only reached £74.9 billion, prompting the Federation of Small Businesses to say that “the Merlin targets have failed”.
